In 1489, with the rise of Yusuf Adil Shah—the first ruler of the Adil Shahi dynasty—the kingdom expanded its territory to include Goa, where a naval force was established. Badami once served as the capital of the Chalukya dynasty. Under their reign, the city became a prominent hub for art in the Malaprabha valley, fostering the development of both Hindu and Jain temple architecture. Aihole, a peaceful village along the Malaprabha River, is celebrated as the ‘cradle of Hindu and Dravidian temple architecture’ and is dotted with hundreds of temples scattered across its landscape. Pattadakal, situated on the riverbank, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its cluster of ten major temples.
