Day 01 : Cochin

Upon arrival at Cochin International Airport, a Marvel Tours representative will welcome you and provide assistance before transferring you to your hotel for check-in. Kochi, a vibrant destination, has thrived as a prominent port for more than six centuries and is celebrated for its diverse architecture, as well as its collection of religious sites, museums, art galleries, cafes, and antique stores. The city spans multiple peninsulas and islands, all interconnected by bridges and water taxis. Most of Kochi’s main attractions are located on the Fort Kochi peninsula. After checking in at your hotel, the rest of the day is at your leisure. Enjoy an overnight stay in Cochin.

Day 02 : Cochin

We leave the hotel at 8:30 am after breakfast and take a shared ferry for a seven-minute ride to Vypeen Island. From there, we travel by vehicle to Kodungallur, about an hour away, for a guided heritage tour. Muziris, also known as Muchiri Pattanam or the City of Pepper, is believed to be an ancient port that traded with the Greeks, Romans, Arabs, and Chinese. Archaeological excavations suggest Muziris may date back to 1000 B.C., and it is thought that the first Jewish settlers arrived around this time, possibly as part of King Solomon’s trading fleet. Some historians, however, place the arrival of Jews in the first century A.D., coinciding with the period when St. Thomas is believed to have reached India. Key sites include the 17th-century Chendamangalam and Paravur synagogues, the Cheraman Mosque (India’s oldest mosque, from the 7th century A.D.), and the St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Catholic Church in Palayur, regarded as India’s first Christian church, founded by St. Thomas. In the evening, we enjoy a two-hour sunset cruise on the harbour before returning to the hotel for an overnight stay in Cochin.

Day 03 : Cochin

After breakfast, set out at 9:00 AM for a half-day guided tour that lets you experience authentic Cochin life. Begin in Mattancherry, where the palace—once home to Kochi’s royalty and a gift from the Portuguese—reflects the area’s history of diverse trading communities living together, each preserving its distinct culture. Walking through the neighborhood is the best way to absorb this vibrant atmosphere, as you pass mosques, synagogues, candle shops, and lanes filled with the aroma of spices.

Next, ride a Tuk-Tuk to Fort Kochi to visit the St. Francis CSI Church, India’s oldest European church built in 1503 and the original burial site of Vasco da Gama, as well as the impressive Santa Cruz Basilica. Continue to the iconic Chinese Fishing Nets, massive cantilevered structures that have become a symbol of Fort Kochi.

The tour concludes with a visit to a local home, where you’ll meet the family and join the host in the kitchen for a cooking demonstration. Discover the essential ingredients and techniques behind a traditional Syrian Christian dish from Kerala, while engaging with your hosts and learning more about local customs. Enjoy the meal you’ve helped prepare before bidding farewell to the family.

In the evening, witness Kerala’s renowned dance drama, Kathakali. Arrive in time to observe the elaborate makeup process from 5 to 6 PM, followed by the performance from 6 to 7 PM, known for its dramatic gestures, striking costumes, and intricate face paint. The stories performed are usually drawn from the Mahabharata and Ramayana. There are plenty of opportunities for photography during both the makeup session and the show. Spend the night in Cochin.

Day 04 : Munnar

After breakfast, set out for Munnar, often called the “Nature Lovers’ Paradise.” The journey, which takes around four hours, winds through the picturesque high ranges and hills, passing by the stunning Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls along the way. The area now known as Munnar was originally named Kanan Devan Hills by a British Army Survey team. In the 1800s, John Daniel Monro, an adventurous Briton, partnered with Kanan Devar, the tribal chief of Anchunadu, to shape the region’s history. Cardamom and coffee were the first crops cultivated here, followed by the establishment of tea plantations after Anglo-American companies acquired the land from Monro. The tea estates were named in honor of the tribal chief for his significant contributions. Once you arrive, check in at your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to explore the surroundings or take a leisurely walk to nearby viewpoints. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in Munnar.

Day 05 : Munnar

In the morning, depart from your hotel for a unique tour with a local guide. The lives of the women working on the tea estates are deeply connected to tea itself. These women handpick the tea leaves and oversee their processing, ensuring you have fresh tea for your morning cup. This tour aims to explore the detailed daily life of these women. Begin with a walk through the Lockhart tea plantations and engage with the tea pickers in the fields. Wander through the residential areas and savor a cup of tea at a village shop. If possible, visit the homes of the tea pickers to observe their lifestyle. Spend some time with the children at the crèche while their mothers work in the fields. Talk to the babysitter, who skillfully keeps the children entertained. On the return journey, pause briefly at the local vegetable and fruit market to see the ingredients used in regional cuisine. Next, visit the TATA Tea Museum at Nallathanni Estate to learn about the history and development of tea estates in the region, finishing with a tea tasting session. Before leaving, stop by the Srishti Project, a recycled paper studio and natural cotton dyeing center run by specially-abled members of the plantation community in Munnar. In the afternoon, take a guided tour of Eravikulam National Park, home to the Nilgiri Tahr, which now hosts the largest known population of this species worldwide. Return to your hotel by evening for an overnight stay in Munnar.

Day 06 : Periyar

After breakfast, set out for Thekkady, a journey of about 5 to 6 hours through Kerala’s scenic cardamom hills. As you travel across the highlands, take in the stunning landscapes—cascading waterfalls, winding rivers, lush plantations, and quaint villages. On arrival, check in to your accommodation. Refresh yourself with a swim in the inviting pool. Later, join a guided Spice Plantation Tour led by a naturalist, where you’ll wander among cardamom, pepper, clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and various other spices and medicinal plants, learning about their cultivation and processing. Afterwards, stroll through the lively Spice Market, browsing a wide selection of fresh produce sourced from local plantations—perfect for bringing home authentic flavors. Spend the night in Periyar.

Day 07 : Periyar

Begin your morning with a guided nature walk in Periyar Tiger Reserve, led by a local tribal guide. This interpretive experience is perfect for spotting birds, butterflies, and various wildlife as you follow trails winding through lush evergreen and moist deciduous forests, interspersed with grassy marshlands. After a two-and-a-half-hour trek, return to your hotel.

Following breakfast outdoors, take part in an exciting elephant activity. Engage in the memorable task of bathing these gentle giants and help the mahouts wash them, observing the elephants’ remarkable responsiveness during their refreshing bath.

In the afternoon, embark on a 1.5-hour shared boat safari on Lake Periyar. This is an excellent opportunity to observe wildlife, as many animals approach the lake to drink. Watch for herds of gaur, sambar deer, and elusive wild boars grazing along the shoreline. Conclude your day with an overnight stay in Periyar.

Day 08 : Kumarakom

After breakfast, complete your check-out and set off on a scenic descent through the High Ranges. As you travel, the waterfalls at Murinjapuzha are sure to catch your eye. Kumarakom, one of Kerala’s most captivating backwater destinations, is renowned for its rich biodiversity, where mangrove forests blend seamlessly with paddy fields, coconut groves, and clusters of white lilies. This vibrant subtropical peninsula extends into Vembanad Lake and is a favored spot for yoga, meditation, and Ayurvedic therapies, as well as for bird-watching, boating, and fishing excursions. Upon arrival, check into your resort, which offers a romantic and private setting overlooking the famous Vembanad Lake. In the evening, enjoy a shared sunset motorboat cruise on the lake, followed by a cultural program organized by the resort. Stay overnight in Kumarakom.

Day 09 : Kumarakom

This morning, after breakfast, you will leave the hotel accompanied by an experienced local guide who will introduce you to the stunning scenery and verdant surroundings of Kumarakom. Board a traditional country canoe rowed by skilled oarsmen and glide through narrow canals to experience authentic village life in Kerala. Your knowledgeable guide from the local community will take you to visit villagers at their homes and workplaces, offering insights into daily life in this secluded backwater village. Delight in observing coconut climbing and toddy tapping in the groves, the handcrafting of coconut leaf and screw pine weaving by local women, the intriguing coir-making process, and traditional fishing methods. If you wish, try your hand at coir spinning and conclude the day’s activities by enjoying a fresh tender coconut. In the evening (3:30–6:00 PM), visit the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary with your naturalist guide. Overnight stay in Kumarakom.

Day 10 : Alleppey

Begin your day unwinding by the tranquil backwaters. After a one-hour road journey, you’ll reach the houseboat boarding point. Alappuzha, also known as Alleppey, is renowned for its extensive network of palm-lined backwater canals and the iconic houseboats that dot Kerala’s landscape. Around midday, step onto your traditional houseboat and set out to discover the scenic charm of village life and the serene waterways, navigating through a landscape of canals, lakes, and inlets. Originally, these boats transported rice and other goods from the backwaters to local markets, but today they are modernized for tourists, offering contemporary en suite amenities. All meals are freshly prepared and served on board. You’ll embark at noon, cruise through the afternoon, and anchor for the evening, with your luggage safely on the boat. Since houseboats typically don’t provide beverages, it’s advisable to bring your own, which the crew will gladly serve. Enjoy an overnight stay on the houseboat.

Day 11 : Kovalam

During the cruise, especially in the early hours, you can observe a variety of birds on the backwaters such as Waterfowl, Cormorant, Cuckoo, Egret, Heron, and Water Duck, along with migratory species like Siberian Cranes and White-necked Storks. The palm trees, shrubs, and diverse leafy plants lining the backwaters provide a natural habitat that attracts these birds. After a pleasant morning cruise and breakfast on board, disembark at the boat jetty and transfer by road to Kovalam (approximately 4 hours). Upon arrival, check into your beachfront resort. In the evening, enjoy the beach and witness a stunning sunset over the ocean. Overnight stay in Kovalam.

Day 12 : Kovalam

Begin your morning with a guided heritage walk through Trivandrum, a city whose origins stretch back to ancient times. Accompanied by a storyteller, uncover the city’s lesser-known tales, fascinating legends, and remarkable truths that shape its storied past. Encounter accounts of influential queens, revered saints, mysterious forts, sacred ponds, restless spirits, notorious aristocrats, triumphant victories, and infamous betrayals—all threads in the rich tapestry of Trivandrum’s history.

Stroll down Mahatma Gandhi Road (MG Road), a lively thoroughfare lined with colonial buildings, vibrant shops, and inviting cafes. Absorb the unique atmosphere as you witness the seamless blend of tradition and modernity. Enjoy lunch at Baker’s Arch before returning to your hotel in the afternoon.

Later, head to Kovalam, once a quiet fishing hamlet and now a favorite among beach enthusiasts for its gentle waves and shallow waters. Recognized as one of India’s earliest tourist destinations, Kovalam offers not only sparkling seas and golden sands but also an authentic glimpse into local village life. At the southern tip of Lighthouse Beach, a striped lighthouse provides sweeping views from its observation deck. The area’s palm-fringed coastline also features Hawa Beach and Samudra Beach. Spend the night in Kovalam.

Day 13 : Kovalam

Spend your day as you wish—relax on the beach or treat yourself to an Ayurvedic spa massage at the resort. Enjoy an overnight stay in Kovalam.

Day 14 : Trivandrum

Your journey concludes today. You will have a private car transfer with assistance to Trivandrum International Airport for your flight home.
